There is a great deal of software available to capture audio on your computer – some of it complicated and expensive. One of the best for this purpose is not only easy to use but is available free. It's called Audacity and you can download it here:
The process of downloading and installing the software is easy if you follow the step-by-step process provided.
Using the software is click button simple, when you want to start you press record and you use other controls just as if it was a tape machine.
If you are doing this at home, here are a few tips:
Make sure your room is as quiet as possible; check for background noises – including the hum of your computer.
Use a good microphone. The free microphone that came with your PC may not be good enough but you don't need to spend a fortune.
Record a small portion of content before you capture the full thing. You want to be able to fix problems quickly rather than after you've worked for several hours.
For simplicity and to rest your voice, capture larger chunks in sections. This will also ensure the files sizes are smaller so easier to upload an download.
Try to work at the time of day your voice sounds sharpest.
The room should be as "dead" as possible... not a lot of reverberation. Bedrooms are good. Kitchens are poor. (bathrooms are awful!)
